Historical Background
Fentanyl was first synthesized by Paul Janssen in 1960 at Janssen Pharmaceutica. It is a potent synthetic opioid that is 50-100 times more potent than morphine. While developed for medical use in treatment of severe pain and anesthesia, it has become a major contributor to the opioid crisis due to its potency and risk of fatal overdose even in minute quantities.
Warning: Extremely dangerous substance. Just 2mg can be lethal. Illicit use carries extreme risk of overdose. Seek immediate medical attention for suspected exposure.
