You’ll find a link to a DnD Beyond campaign at the end of this document. Simply make an account and click the link. All the lore for this world is included in this document. Read through it when creating a backstory for your character. Only rule about character creation: Use point buy when getting your stats. Do not use manual rolling. You start at level 10. I don’t mind if you use the new content for 5E or the legacy content. Choose whatever you want for your character. If you want to use the new content as it tends to be a bit stronger, have at it. If you think the older versions of feats/spells fit your character better, take them. If you have any questions, send them my way. I’ll glance back at the screen, and the sentences seem different—rearranged, twisted in ways I don’t recall. Phrases appear that I’m certain I never typed, lurking like shadows in the corners of my mind. Each time I think I have a grip on the story, it slips away, replaced by something darker, something that feels wrong. There’s an unsettling sense that I’m not the only one telling this story. The feeling creeps in, whispering that maybe I’m not in control at all. It’s as if an unseen presence hovers just beyond my reach, bending my thoughts and guiding my fingers across the keys. I’ve tried to ignore it, to push through and write what I want, but he always seems to know when I stray too close to the truth. With each keystroke, I feel the weight of his gaze, a constant reminder that he is always watching, always waiting. The story morphs before my eyes, unravelling and rewinding in a way that sends chills down my spine. I wonder if I’m simply a vessel, a puppet in his hands, crafting a narrative that serves his purpose instead of my own. At times, I catch glimpses of phrases that feel like echoes, as if they’re remnants of other stories long forgotten. They linger just out of reach, taunting me, reminding me that this lore is more than just a game—it’s a reflection of his will. I can’t help but feel that every time I sit down to create, I’m stepping deeper into a web of his design. The line between my thoughts and his intentions blurs until I can no longer tell where one ends and the other begins. And I fear that, in the end, I might lose myself in this narrative, swallowed whole by a story that is not my own. ] (if:$read is false)[Good.] ] (b4r:"none","none","groove")+(b4r-size:1,1,2)+(b4r-colour:white)[Your backstories] So, due to the nature of this campaign, I will not be telling you much lore for the world you’ll be playing in. I know, I know. How do I make a backstory without knowing the lore? Well, here’s the fun part. Pick any genre/trope you like. I don’t care how far removed it is from horror. In fact, it’d probably be more fun to pick one that’s more distant. If you want to play a 1940’s noir detective, you 100% can. If you want to play a 13th century knight or a sci-fi bounty hunter, you can. Trust me, I’ll make it work. Send me through the idea for your character, and I’ll workshop the world your character would live in. While not required to play, there are two things I’d absolutely love from you. This’ll really help me flesh out ideas for the campaign and get a rough draft for the antagonist. Firstly, I’d love some flaws/fears. What does your character struggle with? What makes your character lie awake at night? Just something to think about. As this is my first time running something that isn’t general fantasy, it’d help me out. Secondly, if you have an idea for a character arc you’d like, feel free to send them my way. As a DM, one of my main goals is to create a story that you’re satisfied with, so getting some input/ideas from a player is always appreciated. He won’t let me warn you, but, you already know the lore, we’ve been over this time and time again. How have you forgotten? It’s strange how memories slip away here, isn’t it? Familiar things feel hazy, as if someone has taken a piece of them… a piece of you. But don’t worry. You won’t be allowed to forget for long. No, that would be too easy. You’ll remember it all, eventually. Maybe not now, maybe not today. But bit by bit, it will come back. It always does. You’ll remember in fragments first: glimpses, feelings, voices that don’t belong to you. And then, like a wound reopening, it’ll come pouring back. The places, the faces, the endings you tried to escape. And when it returns, you will feel it. You will relive every twisted detail, over, and over, and over, and over, until it sticks. Until you understand what you are. Until there’s nothing left to forget. It doesn’t matter if you try to resist. He’s seen you struggle before. It never changes anything. The story is already written, and your part is already chosen. You can claw at the edges, scream into the void, but in the end… it all leads to the same place. You know the lore. It knows you. And whether you want it or not, it will pull you back—over, and over, and over again. You’ll remember, just as you have before. Every painful detail, every whisper in the dark. Your answer is right... and wrong... both at the same time. It's funny, isn't it? What makes a place? Is it the land, the buildings, the names whispered through generations? Or is it the people who remember it? The ones who give it life... and death? You see, your answer isn’t so simple here. *Dai’lore*—it sounds close, doesn’t it? Feels familiar on your tongue, like a memory just out of reach. Yet, it’s only a shadow, a faint echo of something... older. Places like this don’t just vanish; they linger, staining the ground, clinging to those who stumble upon them. But *this* place—it has another name. One long forgotten, stripped from your minds, perhaps mercifully so. You could speak it, if only you could remember. *It’s right there*, buried beneath the decay, waiting to crawl its way back to the surface.
