capture a string with escape

/("(?:\\"|.)*?")/s

• ?: instrucs non-capture
• \\\\ will be \\ in php and it will be \ in regex
• *? is a lasy repetition. Trys to get out of the repetition rule whenever it gets a chance
• /s allows '*' to even match '\n'
